Dr. Natasha Shanahan Henley

Dr. Henley grew up on Oahu and truly respects the diverse cultures present in Hawaii. As a humanistic therapist she recognizes the unique differences and needs of patients from diverse backgrounds/experiences and makes efforts toward modifying the therapy to respect those needs. Her therapeutic endeavors are less centered on directing individuals toward a certain way of being, but instead promote the idea that the patient has the knowledge within them and the necessary tools to achieve well-being. She aims toward creating a safe therapeutic environment with a balance of empathy, genuineness, non-judgment, as well as using specific interventions and guidance to create a space where the patient can feel understood, accepted, and respected by the therapist, while also gaining the benefits of a therapist's knowledge and skill base.
Dr. Henley has also taught classes on stress management and relaxation techniques to help reduce stress levels and promote a greater sense of well-being. She understands that finding ways to balance priorities, stressors, and self-care needs is highly important to one's overall well-being. A major focus in her therapy style is uncovering layers of emotion, and working toward transforming maladaptive emotions to more adaptive/positive ones. She also strives to help patients find balance between their intra-personal, couples, family, and cultural systems/identities.
