Common Questions
Is therapy confidential?
State law and professional ethics require that a therapist maintain confidentiality. No information is disclosed to others unless you provide written consent. There are some rare exceptions required by law to this rule, including:
• If a patient has communicated a serious threat of violence to another.
• If a patient has communicated a threat to injure or kill oneself.
• If there is suspected abuse/neglect to a child, a dependent adult, or an elderly person.
Will my employer be told?
Due to confidentiality, no information is shared with your employer except with your written consent or if the safety of yourself or others is a concern.
What is involved in an intake/initial session?
The intake session is your first session with your therapist, and usually lasts approximately 60-90 minutes, depending on the complexity of your situation. During the intake session, we will share with you our informed consent and confidentiality agreement, as your privacy is very important to us. You will also be encouraged to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, the kinds of symptoms you may be experiencing, and what you would like to achieve in therapy.
How long does treatment last?
The length of treatment depends on each patient's needs and challenges. We emphasize evidence-based practice intervention strategies and continuously assess our patients' progress towards treatment goals based on measurable outcomes.
How long is each session?
Each session usually lasts 50 minutes.
